Timely Art Installation Sends a Signal: Higher Respect for Nature
In the time of “Fridays for Future”, society has begun an intense debate on key environmental issues. For centuries, the tree has been considered to be a symbol of life and spiritual power. Against a background of climate change, dying forests and worldwide slash-and-burn agriculture, Klaus Littmann’s temporal art intervention in Klagenfurt’s Wörthersee Stadium, implemented by the Swiss landscape architect Enzo Enea and his company, Enea Landscape Architecture, is of the utmost significance.
At the invitation of Klaus Littmann, Enzo Enea and his company have developed and realized a temporal forest in the Wörthersee Stadium. The intervention, based on the ideal image of a European mixed forest, is an interaction with a drawing by Austrian artist Max Peintner. The installation covers 7,000 square meters using 299 specially selected trees.
The forest floor was designed by Enzo Enea incorporating various plant species, such as shrubs and woody plants, to authentically create the image of a forest. The individually selected trees are well-maintained specimens that have been previously transplanted several times. When the installation closes the trees will be permanently planted in the vicinity of Klagenfurt.
Enzo Enea’s Statement about FOR FOREST
“We use nature but we do not respect it. We take pleasure from it, but we do not protect it. For me as a landscape architect and tree specialist, FOR FOREST is a statement for the conservation of the forest as part of nature in its original form and in all its diversity.”
Enzo Enea sees the nature installation FOR FOREST as a statement meant to bring increasingly threatened nature back into our living environment. “FOR FOREST – The Unending Attraction of Nature” A temporary art intervention will be on display at Klagenfurt’s Wörthersee Stadium until October 27th.
