The Brand ranges from rugs to primitive wall hangings, from Mauritania to Kyrgyzstan, from the past to the near future.
Altai arose from the passion and research of Raffaele and Elisa Carrieri.

In 1997, they opened their first gallery in Milan where they exhibited the first Antique Saharian Mats ever seen in Europe, followed by Central Asian antique felts and kilims from Kurdistan. The Milanese were amazed, among them Ettore Sottsass, Maddalena De Padova and Vico Magistretti.

The Carrieri’s expert eyes immediately recognize unique pieces with primeval origins, humble yet extremely sophisticated. These are masterpieces that have been trodden on and handed down for thousands of years. They are the last. Unique weaves, on the wall or on the floor, define space and conquer designers, architects and art collectors.
