Interior
A villa overlooking Lake Zurich with an integral concept for contemporary architecture, interior design and landscape architecture offers breathtaking views. Modern design and open-plan layouts create an inviting atmosphere.
From the outside, the architecture appears subtle and reserved, while on the inside it opens up steadily towards the garden with views over the lake. This landscaped oasis offers a retreat that captures the soul of the area with its sweeping hills and lush grass, enveloping its inhabitants and bringing the idyllic Swiss landscape into the house.
The project focuses on a harmonious balance between proportions, materials and visual axes, the relationship between narrowness and width as well as a warm, homely and open spatial atmosphere. The architecture extends over four floors and is emphasized by cantilevered roofs with horizontal lines that echo the staggering of the landscape. The floor plan, terraces and inner courtyards are enlivened by an evergreen garden with grasses, hedges and flowers, creating exciting visual connections from the outside and inside. The open spaces create seamless connections between the indoor and outdoor areas, while the large windows create a bright and airy ambiance that invites residents to relax and unwind. Wooden ceilings extend from the outside into the interior spaces, increasingly blurring the threshold spaces.
Upon entering the house, the eye is drawn to a free-standing spiral staircase, which extends over two floors as a sculptural element and is flooded with daylight through a light opening in the ceiling. Past the spiral staircase, you look into the spacious living and dining area, which is framed by a striking stone plinth made from the crust of a shell limestone. A fireplace sits in the centre of the imposing stone plinth, offering views of the natural surroundings to the right and left. When selecting the materials, great importance was given to the use of natural materials. The use of natural stone in combination with wooden parquet flooring, wooden wall panelling and white walls made of swamp lime plaster give the rooms a warm and deeply homely feel and at the same time emphasise the different areas: The wooden walls point the way to the more private areas, while baseboard elements run from the entrance through the entire floor and form a guiding line.
As you enter the guest bathroom, you are surrounded by wood-panelled walls that draw your gaze to the landscape. A solid natural stone basin forms the highlight in the atmospheric guest bathroom, which is reminiscent of a trough and appears to float on a stone board – a nod to the scenic character of the area. The integration of natural stone elements runs through other areas of the house: opposite the living area is a 15 metre long indoor pool, which is separated from the main living area by an inner courtyard. A special element here is the natural stone wall, which is continued as a wall in the outdoor area. In the kitchen, which is connected to the living and dining area, a free-standing kitchen island made of dark quartzite also takes centre stage.
Another highlight is the private underground car park, which makes arriving a spectacular prelude and only hints at the extraordinary interior of the house. A metal grid ceiling combined with the wood-panelled walls creates a homely and sporty-elegant appearance. From the garage, you enter the lower foyer, which is decorated in warm brown tones and creates a connection to the living areas.
Beautiful art elements or a customised dining table pick up on various aspects of nature and create a unique atmosphere in all seasons, enlivening the otherwise quiet rooms and giving them character.
