Located in the traditional neighborhood of El Prado in the coastal city of Barranquilla, Colombia, this modern home is a glass volume within a solid frame, making the garden a key feature to be viewed and enjoyed from every room. With this in mind, the garden was designed to blur the boundaries between the interior and exterior and to maximize the use of the entire lot. At the ground level, a bamboo wall frames the garden; the verticality of the bamboo links the three levels of the building while providing much needed privacy. A series of native tropical trees frame the exterior rooms and provide shade while a lush, vertical garden serves as a backdrop for the pool. On the roof garden, tropical flowering trees and grasses frame the views toward the ocean and river while a reflecting, rectangular water feature adds serenity to the space.
